Neat websites

These websites aren't necessarily related to art or the creation of it, but they are quite interesting and neat as something to do and see online.
Maybe they'll teach you something new? Maybe they'll inspire you?
Whatever they do I think they deserve a special spot here on my side of the internet. Please enjoy!

General

Project Gutenberg
Has a large selection of books that are entirely free to read. This includes many well-known classics, such as The Great Gatsby, Pride and Prejudice, and more.

The Internet Archive
is a godsent when trying to find old websites that have gone offline, or for finding really old books and programs that have gone out of print or arent accessible elsewhere. That old scanner you found on the sidewalk? They might have the drivers and the manuals for that.

AlternativeTo
Is a website that lets you browse through lists of alternatives to whatever program or website you're looking to replace. Very useful for finding free programs, and for finding programs compatible with specific operating systems or platforms.

Wikipedia's list of common misconceptions
Sometimes we run around thinking we know something because we've heard the same thing said over and over by friends, acquaintances, family - Well, sadly that doesn't always mean it's true, no matter how well-intended and certain you feel about it. About once a year I try to read through this list to stay informed on the things that I don't know I don't know, and it always leaves me with at least a few surprises. It's honestly pretty fun. Give it a try!

Cartoons, art, and comics

Sakuga booru
is a Booru-type website dedicated to beautiful animation. That's it. Just animated shot after animated shot after animated shot, ready to browse.

Catsuka
Writes news about the animation industry and does a great job at covering as much of the world as possible. There's some serious dedication put into this site, and it's probably one of my favourite news websites on the entire internet.

MyFigurecollection
Is a database of collectible figures, focusing primarily on anime figures. You don't need to be a collector yourself to appreciate the artistry that have gone into some of them, and as this site often has multiple pictures of each figure it can sometimes double as a useful source of reference photos for fanart.

Gaming

GameFAQs
I think of GameFAQs as the OG gaming website. Discords and fanwikis have obviously decreased the pace of this site over the years, but recent games still end up attracting fans making old-school tutorials and guides on here, and its archive of in-depth older guides is bafflingly big. It also has a forum that remains relatively active, as well as a review and ranking list.

The Visual Novel Database
A very extensive database of visual novels, including user tags and reviews. If you like visual novels and want to find something new to read this is a great site.

Spriters Resource

Nexusmods
Modding your games can be a lot of fun, and Nexusmods is more or less the home of the non-romhack game modding scene. Older games like Skyrim thrive on modders making new content years after their release, with some creators making mods so big that they might as well be considered entirely new games place upon an older preexisting base.
